David Kool Named New Head Boys Basketball Coach at Jenison High School
The most prolific scorer in the history of Western Michigan Men’s Basketball Program, David Kool will take over as the new Head Basketball Coach at Jenison High School. Born and raised in the west Michigan area, Kool remains one of the most recognizable former Broncos to come through WMU in recent memory.
After a dynamic career as a player, David became a Graduate Assistant Coach at Western Michigan University. After one year David was elevated to full-time Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach. He was going into his third year in that role before deciding to become the next Head Coach at Jenison. “We are very excited to have a man of David’s work ethic, dedication and character to lead our program.” Todd Kolster said. “The same type of approach that made him one of the best players in high school and college, has made him into a great coach.”
As a player, Kool was named Mid-American Conference Player of the Decade by Rivals.com after being named the 2010 MAC Player of the Year and Honorable Mention All-American by the Associated Press. Kool led the MAC in scoring each of his last two seasons for the Brown & Gold and finished his career as the all-time leading scorer in school history and sixth in conference history with 2,122 points. He averaged 17.9 points per game as a junior and 21.6 points per game as a senior.
Kool was the 2007 MAC Freshman of the Year, First Team All-MAC in 2008 and 2010 and Second Team All-MAC in 2009. He was a three-time Academic All-MAC selection and ESPN the Magazine Academic All-American.
“David is a team first person with the best interest of our student-athletes at heart. He will do an outstanding job leading our program and being a first class person representing Jenison Public Schools and our great community.”
