Dakota Captures Lead Early to Defeat Jenison High School Varsity
Jenison High School Varsity fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 14-2 loss to Dakota on Friday. Dakota scored on a double by K Popko and a groundout by J Salisbury in the first inning.
Dakota captured the lead in the first inning. Dakota scored two runs when K Popko doubled with zero outs in the first inning.
Dakota scored six runs in the fifth inning. The big inning for Dakota came thanks to a double by S Erb, a single by L Bobowski, a error, and a single by J Salisbury.
K Dunford earned the win for Dakota. She pitched four innings, allowing zero runs, one hit, striking out two, and walking one. J Hammer threw one inning, as two relievers helped Dakota finish off the victory.
Emily Mouat, Brianna Turmell, Kaitlin Johnson, Emily Nott, and Evelyn Blood all had one hit to lead Jenison High School Varsity.
Dakota collected 16 hits. J Popko, Bobowski, Salisbury, and S Dicicco each collected multiple hits for Dakota. Dicicco went 2-for-3 at the plate as she led the team with four runs batted in. Popko led Dakota with two stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with six stolen bases.
